Welcome from the Secretary
Jack L. Fischer, AIA, Secretary Greetings, We're pleased that you're visiting the Wisconsin Department of Commerce (Commerce) website. As a department, we are unique in our diverse responsibilities, housing six divisions (see department organization), each with a distinctive charge. We work hard to provide you with the answers you're seeking in any of our areas of expertise, as quickly and efficiently as possible. Our mission at the Department of Commerce is to drive the retention and creation of good paying jobs while promoting safe, healthy communities. This encompasses many different and diverse programs. We might be helping a company expand in Wisconsin or providing financial assistance to a Wisconsin community for new sewer and water or ensuring that the gas you put in your car is safe or making sure that buildings are built to safe standards. For Wisconsin communities looking for assistance in community and housing development click here. With a well-educated workforce and a work ethic second to none, whether you're an auto parts manufacturer or a stem cell researcher, we've got the homegrown - and transplanted - talent and resources to help your business grow. If you are a business looking for financial, expansion or relocation assistance, please contact the region-appropriate Area Development Manager (ADM). Thinking of starting your own business? Visit our Business Wizard program and find out everything you need to know in just a few minutes. Looking for affordable housing in the state? Log on to WI FrontDoor at: wifrontdoorhousing.org to find thousands of rental listings. Wondering where to go to get a plumber's license, or other state building-related certification? If you can't find what you're looking for, I hope you will let us know. We are constantly striving to update our site to make it as "user-friendly" as possible. If you have a general question or comment, please direct it to the appropriate division email address. Thanks, and have a great Wisconsin day! Jack L. Fischer, AIA |
